History of Community

The Grain Train is a natural foods cooperative that has been serving northern Michigan since 1971. With over 50 years of providing healthy, high-quality food, we’ve built our success on the loyal support of our customers and co-op owners.

Our original store in downtown Petoskey has been part of the community from the start, and in 2014, we opened a second location in Boyne City, furthering our mission to bring healthy, sustainable food choices to more people.

Both stores offer a variety of everyday essentials, snacks, and specialty items supporting your journey to a healthier, sustainable lifestyle.

What is a Co-op?

Food co-ops are a great way to build community and support healthy eating. They’re owned by local people who care about good, healthy food for everyone.

Co-ops believe food brings people together and celebrates our differences.

Anyone can shop at a food co-op, and anyone can join as an owner to enjoy special benefits. Becoming an owner also lets you get involved and make a difference in your local food system.
